Heritage

Aepona can trace its roots directly to Aldiscon, the Dublin based company, who was a pioneer of text messaging and the first company to market with an SMSC platform. Following the sale of Aldiscon to Logica in the mid-1990's, another company, Apion, was founded, which thrived in the WAP gateway market before being sold to Openwave in 1999.

Both of these companies were leaders in their field, and, as well as providing products, offered professional services, providing staff with valuable experience in implementing and maintaining large-scale carrier network platforms.

This heritage has provided Aepona with a long experience in not only developing carrier-grade, high-throughput products, but also in delivering extremely complex integration projects on time and within budget. Aepona's has particular expertise in integrating multiple vendors' platforms and working with complex telecoms protocols.

In June 2007, Aepona acquired the Swedish Application Server vendor Appium, strengthening the company's product portfolio and customer base.

In June 2009, Aepona completed the acquisition of Valista, a leading provider of Payments and Settlement solutions based in Ireland. The Valista acquisition has provided Aepona with the industry's first complete solution for the Network as a Service (NaaS) business model.

Today, Aepona's team uniquely combines skills and experience in Internet / IT technologies such as Web Services, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Java and Service Creation Environments with core telecoms technologies such as SIP, IMS, SS7, and Intelligent Networks. Our people are renowned for being innovative, highly responsive, customer-focused, trustworthy and experienced.

Aepona is committed to technology advancement, heavily promoting the development of standards to ensure interoperability and the global adoption of next-generation technologies. We are a member of global bodies such as 3rd-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and Open Mobile Alliance, and work closely with the GSMA in providing the technology for its OneAPI initiative.
