GSMA OneAPI

Aepona is proud to be working with the the GSM Association for the Reference Implementation of its OneAPI initiative.

OneAPI (Open Network Enablers API) is a groundbreaking GSM Association initiative that will dramatically broaden the number and variety of mobile services available to end-users, enabling the creation of feature-rich applications to support the mobile lifestyle.

Set to revolutionise mobile service creation, OneAPI will drive innovation by making it significantly easier and faster for developers to build applications that combine the best of the Internet with the best of mobile telephony - and which importantly are interoperable across operators. This will be achieved by providing a universally agreed set of cross-industry network APIs for operators, enabling them to expose valuable network information and capabilities to third party developers to build Telco 2.0 services and charge for the services through the operator.

Proprietary network APIs, sheer complexity, walled gardens, and contractual differences have until now stifled the creation of cross-operator applications and under-utilised network intelligence and functions such as messaging, billing, location, user profiles, data connection profiles and call control. Solving this challenge presents operators and developers with a considerable revenue opportunity.

The GSMA chose Aepona to provide the technology for the OneAPI initiative because of the company's proven expertise in successful application integration between operators and developers. Using Aepona's Universal Service Platform, operators can 'open up' their networks to independent developers while protecting the core network infrastructure.

Operators already involved in OneAPI include Vodafone, Orange, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Telstra, 3, Telenor, Telecom Italia, Swisscom, TELUS, Rogers and Smart Communications.
