Aepona's Customers
Development and deployment of a new generation of fixed line applications for KPN. By deploying Aepona's solution, KPN is able to create an environment to rapidly develop and deploy telecom applications in a consistent, secure and reliable manner. They no longer have to rely on traditional IN and SS7 skill sets with the associated technical inhibitors and lengthy time-to-market lead times. Instead, Aepona's technology allows KPN to leverage standard IT technologies like J2EE, XML and Web Services to bring a new and innovative generation of application development capabilities to telecommunications service creation.
Aepona's Universal Service Platform products have already been deployed in the KPN network and are supporting several new applications. For example, the Internet Call Waiting Service allows KPN subscribers in the Netherlands that are dialed up to an ISP using their residential telephone line, to be notified with a screen-pop when there is an incoming call. They can then select from several options for how the call should be processed by the network, including the possibility to terminate the voice connection to their PC using VoIP.
The Internet Call Waiting project within KPN has highlighted many of the benefits that the Universal Service Platform offers. The inherent network abstractions within the technology make it easy to develop and deploy convergent applications. Using standard IT technologies and programmable APIs allows for rapid development times and opens up possibilities for market launches of a new generation of feature rich applications.
